Emory Fix had lived in her ancestral property for many years. The cottage had seen better days. Emory, now 60, remembers running through the wooden corridors for hours and not getting anywhere.

Emory had heard of stains but she thought that mere staining would not withstand the weather conditions of their countryside. Martha corrected her saying that there are stains that help with rough weathers too.

Combat Weather:

Many a time the condition of your deck is a reflection of your overall surroundings. Weather affects your deck severely. If you have tall trees or deciduous trees around your deck, it will lead to a lot of fallen leaves and dampness.

In case of decks that are exposed to intense heat, an acrylic stain that is mixed with iron oxide or some semi-transparent or opaque pigment works fine. The additives provide a higher color retention capacity than other transparent colors. Not to mention that they inadvertently protect your wood from graying and degradation of the surface.

Constant dampness and rain can also cause a lot of problem. Dampness leads to growth of mildew. In that case use a water-repellent stain with preservative.

The preservative helps your deck by giving it added protective against growth of any fungus. The growing fungi harm the surface of the wood. It also saves it from any kind of rot, mold, and decaying.

If you face constant snow and need to shovel your deck regularly, do not use a metal shovel. These metal shovels can rupture your wood covering and cause erosion. The erosion will lead to the disintegration of the wood quickly.

It is a good idea to not coat your deck soon after rainfall. It is a good idea to coat your deck during runny weather.
