There is no law that says that mailbox should do only a particular function. Some of the more ornate versions of mailboxes incorporate unique features as bird baths, bird houses, sporting events, buildings and so on. Whether looking out for a mailbox for an apartment, residence, or for your office, one has options of the durable vinyl modern mailboxes, strong steel mailboxes or the elegant aluminum, copper and brass mailboxes.

Rural Mailbox

In the rural areas and in the village areas, there are some people who go into the extent of setting their mailboxes on the long poles or go to the length to make their mailboxes stand out. There are also shops that sell the rural mailbox with secured features. They have a rustic look and can be personalized and also are customised. However, the farmers have mailboxes handmade from outdated or old tractors, bicycles and other junk stuff. For instance, there are mailboxes that are completely automated. It notifies the mail-recipient when mail arrives to the mailbox and delivers the post, via a system of automated belts and drives, directly to the kitchen table. These are usually home made mailboxes.

Specification Of Rural Mailbox

Sometimes the rural mailboxes are also called as weird mailboxes. Rural mailboxes are large and some mailboxes are divided into three compartments. However, some mailboxes may have only two or one compartment. The compartments are usually large. It is believed that the upper compartment is for the magazine and newspaper. The middle one is for mails and the last one for the groceries. However, the feature of the modern rural mailbox is different, they are more like the curbside mailboxes. The specifications are listed below

1. The mailboxes are made from galvanized metallic sheets of aluminum or stainless steel
2. To prevent the rain, snow or dust from getting into the box even after the lid is closed, seams and joints are to construct.
3. The size of the rectangular boxes is to be atleast 18×6x6 inches and that of cylindrical boxes are 18×6 inches.
4. It is advisable to have openings on the top or from the side.
5. The boxes have an adjustable and durable metallic signal that show when there is a mail inside.
6. The box should be located by the roadside, so that the carrier could easily access without dismounting from his vehicle.
