Roofing Insulation
Home insulation requires that the different parts of the house such as walls, ceilings, floors, roofs, attics, basements are all well insulated. Only this will ensure comfort for the members of the family while bringing down costs of heating and cooling the living spaces year after year. Roofing insulation is extremely important because the roof is the first point in the house that directly comes in contact with the elements of weather. Rain, wind, snow and sun can cause many problems if insulation is not in place.
Why roofing insulation is important?
Roofing insulation is important in order to protect houses from humidity and extreme temperature conditions. Most roofing insulation products available offer weather resistance as the most important benefit. If the roof is properly insulated, the living spaces below it can become more comfortable for use. Also, certain kind of insulation such as the use of reflective foil can also reduce the need for artificial lighting and bring down electricity costs for the homeowner.
When is roofing insulation carried out?
Roofing insulation may be carried out at the time of construction of the building structure. However, if the homeowner has decided to install roofing insulation after a certain point of time, he will have to consider whether the insulation must be installed on the underside of the roof in the interior of the house or it can be done from the exterior of the house. Flat roof structures are generally insulated from the outside.
How is roofing insulation carried out?
Roofing insulation should be carried out by qualified roofing insulation contractors only. Since the materials used in roofing insulation may prove to be harmful to the skin and eyes of people working on the insulation, appropriate clothing and protective gear such as gloves and masks are recommended. Also, anyone who is not directly involved in the roofing insulation activity should keep away from the area till the activity is completed. Materials such as rock wool, sheep wool, cellulose and foam insulation are used. Reflective foil insulation is used when interior lighting requirements are to be met. Using certain kind of spray foam solutions prevents loose-fill from falling down after installation.
