Marine Insulation
The ship building industry has strict standards about the kind of safety and security measures on board a ship. Marine insulation products are tested for fire protection as well as against other parameters to judge their efficiency. Thermal insulation is also required on a ship for the different facilities provided to the passengers including machinery, equipment, restaurants among others. Soundproofing is also another important area under marine insulation.
Requirements of marine insulation products
The products and applications used in marine insulation must ensure protection from fire for the various constructions and components of a ship. The heating and cooling insulation products must able to satisfy the passenger needs on board. Besides being economical, these products must also be functional and easy to clean and repair. Air and pipe ducts insulation is also of prime importance. All insulation products and applications are tested against stringent safety standards. Sound insulation products are also used on ships.
Types of marine insulation products
Foam insulation along with reinforced aluminum foil barriers are used for duct wraps and pipes. Thermal insulation may be provided using laminates or acoustic ceiling panels. Blanket insulation may be also used in certain areas on naval marine ships. Yachts and other forms of marine travel such as small boats that are at sea for more than a few days at a time also require insulation. The scale of the project may differ, but almost all modes of transport used on the sea require insulation to be installed before being put to sea. One or a combination of insulation materials may be used for this purpose.
Resources for marine insulation products
Most marine insulation products and applications that are used on ships are manufactured by insulation material manufacturers who cater to such industries entirely or have a separate department to attend to such requirements. Most ship building companies or ship owners would have different requirements that also need to meet high regulatory standards. These insulation material suppliers also supply the required manpower in the form of experienced and qualified insulation contractors and engineers to take care of marine insulation projects.
