Mailbox is the first thing anybody looks at to check that they have the right house number. So it can be rightly said that the mailbox identifies the owner of the house. More often, mailbox is a signpost that tells visitors they are at the right spot. There is an array of mailboxes available in the market to choose from. Wall mounted, handmade, animal, customised mailboxes are some of the postboxes available to meet the demands of the customer. Some mailboxes have locks and keys to lock up the contents and require a key for access. There are other mailboxes that are decorative and give a welcoming feeling and put the visitors at ease as soon as they see it. Like the mailboxes, the mailbox stand or the stand also adds to the beauty of the house. There are different types of mailbox stand to choose from.

There are two types of mailboxes: wall mounted and pedestal mounted. The wall mounted mailboxes are fixed to the wall whereas the pedestal mounted ones are actually attached to the posts or stand called mailbox stand or post.

1. Plastic mailbox posts – is extremely durable and will outlast any wood or metal post.
2. Metal posts – are available in galvanized steel and aluminum. Both are durable. However, aluminum though a bit expensive is most recommended as it rust resistant. The aluminum posts last longer and have good finish.
3. Wooden posts are the traditional choice. Cedar and redwood are insect resistant. Eventually, they may rot if buried. However, checkout whether the wood is treated and seasoned.
