Pollution happens constantly in our world and is an accepted reality in today's modern, industrialized society. There are chemicals and gases abounding in the atmosphere that we do not see, yet we know they exist. Yet, because we do not see them, we often dismiss them as not very important issues in our overall lives, but they do affect our health and well-being in ways that we may have never before imagined. Allergies affect millions of people, and often the causes of these allergies are air-borne, such as dust mites and cat dander. With the invention of the UV air purifier, we can now begin to clean the environments within our homes and offices in order to regain some of our health.

The Technology Of The UV Air Purifier

Many people are not aware of the differences between a regular air filter and a UV air purifier. Organic molecular bonds can be broken with just the right amount of energy that ultraviolet light possesses. Micro-organisms begin to pass by the UV rays from an ultraviolet lamp and cause a bond breakage at the cellular or genetic level, causing the micro-organism damage. Germs, viruses, fungi and bacteria are just a few of these micro-organisms that are demolished by the UV air purifier. Much of the same damage can occur in humans, yet it is limited to only the eyes and skin. The ultraviolet light is prevented from leaving the inside of the unit in these types of filters, and it only sterilizes the air through its cleaner system.

There have been many studies conducted on the safety and efficacy of the UV air purifier. For example, the Centers of Disease Control now recommends using the UV filter and HEPA filters simultaneously for the best results. Air handling units should also use UV light in order to help improve indoor air quality of government buildings, as specified by the U.S. government. In one study conducted by the Air and Waste Management Association, bacteria were reduced by 80% with a combination HEPA and germicidal UV lamp. While there are many advantages to this method, wisdom needs to be used as to what brand or type of UV air purifier to purchase, as there are several available. Yet, with the right research and motivation, a good and sound decision can be made in order to enhance not only the quality of the air you breathe, but overall health as well.
