If you are one of those people who are bent on reducing energy consumption and cutting down energy bills from your household, then you should realize that the appliances that consume the most energy are refrigerators and freezers.

According to studies, it has been found out that from the average household's total power consumption, refrigerators and freezers comprise 9 percent to up to 25 percent!! This is so because aside from electricity being used for these to operate, these appliances are on 24/7 and has a monthly consumption of 100 to 200 kilowatt hours.

In order for you to be able to save energy from you refrigerator and freezers, here are some tips you can follow when buying and using these appliances.

1. When Buying a Refrigerator or a Freezer:
- Buy an energy saving refrigerator or freezer that qualifies as an Energy Star model. Energy Srar appliances exceed the Federal standard and can help you lessen your energy consumption by 20 percent and $60 dollars from your pocket.

- Try to look for refs that are 16-20 in cubic foot size. These types of refrigerators save energy because they are the most energy efficient models.

- You can also try purchasing top freezer models rather than side-by-side models. These freezers can lessen energy consumption by 7-13 percent.

- Another guideline when buying refrigerators that save energy is to avoid those that have icemakers which are automatic or models with dispensers that are through-the-door. These added features do not only add $750-250 to the selling price but also increases energy consumption to 14 to 20 percent.

- Aside from this, and if you are truly bent on having a freezer or refrigerator that saves energy and electricity, avoid those that have antisweat heaters. Such feature adds 5 to 10 percent more consumed energy.

2. While Using a Refrigerator or Freezer:
- A cooling appliance which has been purchased 15 years ago or more should be replaced with new refrigerators that save energy and are more power efficient. According to a study, refrigerators that were manufactured in 1990 and earlier consume 900-kilowatt hours in a year.

- Keep your refrigerator and freezer maintained. You can save energy from refrigerators by checking the door seal for presence of cracks which allow cold air to leak out.

- Another way to save energy from refrigerators is to unplug those and extra freezers that are not being used or aren't filled to their capacity. According to studies, an extra freezer can use up an extra 1200 kilowatt hours in a year and an extra refrigerator can consume an extra 2400 kilowatt hours.

- A fourth of frost inch will make the refrigerator consume more energy to keep everything inside cold. Always make sure that you regularly defrost your freezers and refrigerator to save energy from them.

- Checking and cleaning the appliance's condenser coils is also a great way to save energy from your refrigerator and freezer. Dirty condenser coils that are located at the bottom and back of the refrigerator can result to additional operating costs. Have them cleaned at least twice a year.

- Another energy saving tip for refrigerators to is to make sure that the appliance is standing on a balanced level. The door gasket may not seal properly if it were not on a level, releasing cold air and increasing power consumption.

- Consider saving more energy from your refrigerators and freezers by avoiding opening the door frequently. Think about the stuff you need to get before opening the door and get all that you need quickly.

- Aside from these, avoid placing freezers and refrigerators on warm places in the house. Your refrigerator will save more energy if it's not placed near warm appliances such stoves, ovens, clothes dryers, water heaters, etc.

- You can also save energy from your refrigerators and freezers by making sure that there are no moisture in containers and bottles before you put them inside the appliance. Cover foods before placing them inside so as to avoid the build-up of moisture.

- When storing leftovers in the refrigerator, make sure that they are cooled slightly. This allows the refrigerator to save energy and avoid it from overworking just to cool the food.

- Most refrigerators work more efficiently if these were full but not beyond its capacity. Cold air will not be able to circulate properly if the appliance is overloaded. By checking the capacity of the appliance from its manual, you do not only save energy from your refrigerator but you also prolong the life of your appliance.

- And the last energy saving tip for refrigerators is to turn these off and get rid of the foods that are most likely to spoil when you are going away for a vacation or trip, especially long ones.

With the recent calamities that hit the nation, it is starting to be difficult to be charitable to others while one is financially challenged on their own. There are ways, though, to address the situation, specifically by saving energy at home. Below are some 5 steps into saving energy at home.

1. Know what you are paying for. Do an energy audit of your home and understand what aspects of your home contribute to your monthly bill, and by how much. It can take as little as 5 minutes to know which appliance consumes the highest electricity. Check out this website: https://www.energycheck.ca/homecheck/consent.shtml to start your audit today.

2. Knock off the Top 3. After your audit, you will find that there are more than 5 aspects of your home that make up your electricity pie. If you take out the 3 biggest slices, this should account for almost 50% of your consumption. The objective is not to eliminate the Top 3, but to find energy saving opportunities in all of them. If this is the first time that you will do this exercise, there will be A LOT of opportunities. For specific ways of energy saving in every aspect of your home, check-out http://www.aceee.org/consumerguide/mostenef.htm.

3. Then move-on to the Easy 3. While going through improvements for your Top 3, you may find that the changes needed may require a significant amount of purchase or a longer time for execution. If so, immediately plan for its execution and don't be discouraged by not seeing immediate results. Big changes will take time. While waiting, there are quick fixes that you can do and the quick results may inspire you to patiently wait for the big bang. Try the following:

a.Replace all the bulbs in your home with compact fluorescent bulbs. CFLs are 66% more energy efficient (Energy Star rated CFL) than incandescent bulbs and lasts 10X longer. They also operate at lower temperatures, thus reducing the over-all heat in your home. CFLs deliver long- term savings and that you may never have to replace your bulb for a very long time.

b.Use a programmable thermostat, to set temperature only as needed. You may lower the setting to 4 – 5 degrees Celsius (7 – 9 degrees Fahrenheit) while you're sleeping at night and when no one is at home.

c.Wash with Cold. 85-90% of the energy used to wash your clothes is used to heat the water. By turning the dial on your washing machine to cold, you save energy, and money. This goes without saying that you should always to wash full loads.

Here are other easy ways to reduce your energy consumption, aside from the easy 3 mentioned above:

1.) Make sure that windows, doorframes, sills and joints are free of leaks. Feel for wind drafts or use incense sticks to see where the smoke leaks around windows, electrical outlets, vents and exterior doors. Look for spider webs, as well, which is an indication that there is a draft. If you do find leaks, make sure to caulk them shut.

2.) If you have a basement or crawlspace, spider webs will be a good indicator of leaks. If so, insulate or plan to do so immediately. A large amount of heat is also lost from an un-insulated basement.

3.) Clear return air grills and heating vents of furniture, rugs and drapes, as they interfere with the flow of heat through out your home.

4.) Plug gaps around pipes, ducts, fans and vents that go through walls, ceilings and floors from heated to unheated spaces.

5.) To reduce heat loss between the fixed and movable sections of doors and windows, apply weather-stripping. This provides a barrier between them.

4. Chart your successes. By doing the easy 3, you will see some improvement in your next month's bill. Make sure to continue to find easy ways of improving the energy efficiency in your home, to continue to inspire you while waiting for the execution and results of the top 3. And what better way to inspire you than to chart your monthly bill and see the line going down as time progresses!

5. Share your successes. Call your next-door neighbor, schedule an energy saving dinner or start your energy-saver blog site and inspire others to save like you do. Show them your charts and actual dollar savings as evidence that your actions deliver results. Afterwards, ask them to also share their energy conservation story and know that their savings is also yours because you inspired them (and taught them) to do it.

People nowadays have only one thing in common: high electricity bills. It seems that this very vulnerable commodity is the common problem of people all over the world. Everybody is, certainly, complaining their electricity bills and continues to find solutions to this worsening problem.

Lucky enough, there are ways how to conserve energy consumption and lowering your bills at the same time. All you have to do is to convert your home and everything on it into an energy saving device.

In most cases, one of the items in our home that are usually being utilized more often is the lights. Whether daytime or at night, the lights are used sparingly. In fact, almost one fourth of our electricity bills are covered up by the energy consumed by lights alone.

So, if you really want to cut down your electricity consumption as well as your electricity bill, it is a must, therefore, that you resort to an energy saving light. But before you do that, you should first understand the concept behind the energy saving light, its characteristics, and its function.

Here's what you need to know:

The Illumination Concept

To know more on how to generate energy saving light, it is a must that you know the concept behind illumination.

Basically, illumination refers to the dispersal of light on a parallel level. It is further measured in terms of footcandles, while, lumen is the amount of light produced from a lamp or any lighting device.

The rates of the lights are expressed in lumens. For example, there are 1750 lumens in a 100-watt incandescent lamp.

Following this idea, if we are to measure the illumination of a certain light, the footcandle of illumination refers to the lumen of light that is being distributed over a "one square foot area."

Pretty complex, isn't it? But these things are important in identifying which of the lights available in the market today can be considered as energy saving lights.

In most cases, it doesn't necessarily mean that you have to settle for lights with lower illumination just so you can conserve energy consumption. Before you that, it would be better to consider first the kind of task you will be employing using a certain light. For example, typical kind of jobs may require an illumination of "thirty to fifty footcandles." That is, any light that falls under this category is an energy saving light and, therefore, ideal to use.

The Uses Of Lights

In order to know what light is an energy saving lights it is important that you know as well the different uses of lights. Normally, their uses are categorized into three: the task, accent lighting, and the ambient.

The task lighting manifests the proper utilization of a light that gives enough illumination only to the target spot but not on the whole area. This reflects how an energy saving light can save more energy by just illuminating on areas that need illumination.

On the other hand, accent lighting is more focused in illuminating walls wherein it naturally blends with the areas that reflect natural brightness such as windows and ceilings. Lights that are being utilized in this manner are considered as energy saving lights.

Lastly, when a light is said to be ambient, it means that it provides an adequate amount of illumination for carrying out jobs on a daily basis.

Light Quality

The quality of light refers to the condition of illumination in a certain space where a person may contend if he or she is receiving enough illumination or not. It also classifies a certain light if it is an energy saving light or not.

Hence, it is extremely important to know the quality of light because there might be instances wherein you will use a high-quality light in an area that reflects brightness. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you consider first the condition of the area before choosing the appropriate light. In that sense, if it provides enough illumination, then that light can be deemed as an energy saving light and so can conserve more energy.

The Different Forms Of Lighting

Basically, lights have four classifications. The first one is the incandescent light. This is the most common among the four because this is mostly used at homes.

Whereas, fluorescent lights are mostly used in the offices, while "high-intensity discharge lighting" is utilized for more of outdoor functions.

The low-pressure sodium, on the other hand, is being used on areas that do not need "color rendering."

Among the four categories, the fluorescent light is deemed more as the energy saving light because it uses less energy consumption but renders illumination in the same way as incandescent light does. So, this means that in order to obtain an energy saving light, it is a must that you know all of these things.

Indeed, a lot of people are neglecting these things because they thought that lights do not consume that much energy as compared to other home appliances. But now that you know which lights are energy saving lights and how you can generate an energy saving light, you can now be assured that your future electricity bills will never be the same again.

The frost of the winter months will keep you and your family huddled indoors, comfortably bundled up and heated – but at what cost? The harsh snow and storms of the season can tax on your heaters and make you spend more on electricity, and eat you out of house and home if you aren't careful to turn your equipment into an efficient, energy saving heater.

Like refrigerators, heaters take up energy to maintain a temperature – and like refrigerators, they can be costly to purchase and keep. Before buying heaters – be they to heat water or the home – make sure that you look for the Energy Star label.

A water heater can come in the form of a small, handy set of coils that can be plugged and then dipped into a basin of water; or it can be a large machine designed to carry heated water through pipes which snake through the house. The handy type is hardly an energy saving heater: it consumes a lot of electricity, so use it sparingly, and unplug it when you are done.

Large water heaters are sensitive to location, so if you are building a new home and wish to install an energy saving heater, then make sure that you place your appliance close to the laundry room, bathroom, and kitchen. Heat is dissipated and lost as it travels through the long pipes, so the closer your energy saving heater is to the rooms, the more electricity – and money – you save.

If your water is always hot at all times of the day, then you may have set your hot water thermostat too high, turning your energy saving heater into an energy eating appliance. Before the winter months come, set your thermostat between 43-49 degrees celsius (110-120 degrees fahrenheit).

To maintain your energy saving heater, check it regularly. If its surface is hot or warm, some of the energy being used to heat your water is being dissipated as heat – a sign that your heater may be old, and a definite signal that you are using up a lot of electricity. Wrap your heater in an insulating blanket if this happens. The wrapping will keep the heat in, and will lower your energy consumption.

Heating up the home is not an easy job for an energy saving heater, and is an even harder task for the money saving spender. If you wish to save money by buying a fireplace or furnace, install thermostats to help you control room temperatures.

If you use a wood-burning fireplace, use wood split into 10-15 cm, or 4-6 inches wide pieces. If a larger surface area is exposed to the flame, your wood will burn cleanly, and more heat will be produced.

If you wish to use a furnace, on the other hand, make sure that you check its filter monthly. Dirty furnace filters can keep heat from traveling through your house, and can increase your energy consumption. Replace old furnaces with new, energy efficient, Energy Star-labeled ones. Turning your furnace into an energy saving heater can save you up to 30% on heating costs.

The biggest energy saving heater is still a well-built, well-insulated home, so design – or remodel – your home in such a way that it can keep the heat in and the cold out during the long, dreary winter months. However, avoid heating areas such as crawlspaces, attics, storage sheds, and garages. These areas are not insulated, and any heat applied to them will be dissipated easily.

An energy saving heater will have no use in an uninsulated house. Seal any openings through which heat may escape. These include doors, windows, and electrical outlets. Rugs can also reduce heat dissipation, so throw down some and keep your floor, and room, warm.

Energy saving heaters will work best only when heating vents are well maintained. Clean your heating vents regularly, and make sure that openings are not blocked by heavy furniture or curtains.

Much money is spent on keeping houses warm and fuzzy in the cold months of the year, and an energy saving heater, though expensive at the outset, will prove to be a money saving investment.

However, if an energy saving heater is not enough, then throw on a sweater and be your house's ultimate energy saving heater. The insulation, after all, will lower your body temperature by two degrees celsius – and save you as much as 4% on your heating bill as well.

As the old clich goes, the eyes are the windows of our souls.

Taken from that perspective, there are instances that the windows are the key in lowering your escalating electric bills.

Impossible? Think again.

With the dawn of information technology, man was able to generate information on how to go back to the basics and propagate things in a more affordable way so as to support man in his continued existence.

And one of the discoveries of man is the energy saving windows, where experts realized how to turn an ordinary windowpane into a remarkable and feasible way of saving energy consumption.

Basically, this so-called energy saving window was conceptualize by people who, at one point in their lives, were obliged to do so due to the inescapable increase in the charges of energy or electricity consumption.

They had created numerous ways on how to utilize energy saving windows as far as energy consumption and bills are concerned. With these energy saving windows, one can be assured of more savings.

So, for those who want to create energy saving window, here's a number of ways how to create one:

1. Go for the low-e windows.

One of the devices made to generate an energy saving window is the so-called Low-e windows.

Basically, "low-e" is the short term for "low-emissivity". This concept is based on the "thin metal coatings" that permits a certain level of solar radiation. What's great with this device is that it blocks the heat that is trying to get out as well.

This "low-e" window is appropriate in any climate. For example, during the cold season, the "low-e" window will curb the imminent loss of heat from the inside. Whereas, when summer time, it slightly impedes the entry of the heat from the outside.

Hence, having an energy saving window equipped with "low-emissivity" will definitely slash out those hefty electric bills.

2. Be dazed with glaze.

Another way of creating an energy saving window is to have it glazed. This can be done by obtaining a double-glazed window that will act as an insulation.

Generally, this insulation capacity of this double-glazed window can be of great help especially if you are trying to lessen your energy consumption.

With this energy saving window, you will no longer need to use a heater just to keep your home warm especially during the cold season.

What's more, these glazed energy saving windows are very affordable, contrary to some beliefs. So, the money you will save is truly amazing.

3. Use mini-blinds.

On the other hand, if you want to block the heat that is entering your house during summer time, all you have to do is to mount some mini blinds or screen on your window. By doing so, it will make your window an energy saving window by limiting the amount of heat, thus, lessening the utilization of air conditioning units.

4. Use an "exotic infills".

With the advent of information technology these days, certain peripherals are emerging with innovative ideas such as the "exotic infills."

Exotic infills makes a window an energy saving window by filling in-between panes with exotic gas infills, argon, or krypton gases that have lesser conductivity than air. Having this kind of energy saving window can cut down your energy consumption to almost half of your usual utilization.

5. Know your windows.

In order to have an energy saving window, it is best that you block "west and south-facing" windows with curtains. It is advisable that you keep them closed too so that only a small amount of heat will be allowed.

6. Mount some awnings.

You can also make an energy saving window by mounting awnings. This is, in fact, the oldest way of making an energy saving window.

This type of energy saving windows work best on "south-facing" windows where there is no sufficient blocking.

Though, you may consider shades than canvass type of awnings because the latter is more expensive.

These are just some of the ways how you can transform your window into an energy saving window. You may always opt for other alternatives that will provide you with more savings on energy consumptions.

With these energy saving windows, you can be assured of a worry-free, stress-free life ahead of you.

Refrigerators are the usual appliances that found in homes, however, this appliance could be the source of much energy consumption due to several factors. Refrigerators are known to consume 9-25% of a household's total consumption of energy. Refrigerators are also accounted to use an estimate of 900 kilowatt-hours per year. This new and improved energy saving refrigerator is not really a brand name but it could be the new label for refrigerators that have passed the following requirements so that it could be considered as an energy saving one.

Proper maintenance of your refrigerator will make it very efficient in consuming just enough energy. Regular cleaning will ensure that if functions well since you will have some time to check on some of its parts. Holes or broken parts of the refrigerator could be monitored because once there are holes, the energy consumption of these refrigerators are high if compared to refrigerators that are regularly maintained.

Defrosting regularly should also be done so that one could save energy while using the refrigerator. This is for the refrigerator to work optimally because once there has been an abundance of ice, chances are, and there would be high consumption of energy. In defrosting, make sure that you keep more than 1/4 inch of frost. This is to ensure that your freezer work harder to keep your food, and the frost, frozen. Through defrosting, one would be able to monitor the refrigerator if it is indeed function as an energy saving refrigerator.

Another way to make your refrigerator an energy saving refrigerator is to always close it whenever you get something. This is needed to ensure that the refrigerator's coolness inside. Aside from that, the door of the refrigerator could be broken from frequent usage. Aside from that energy saving refrigerator methods, placing the refrigerator in a place wherein there's enough ventilation would help the appliance function better. Once the refrigerator is placed near appliances which give out heat like ovens, stoves, and water heaters, the refrigerator might not be able to work properly because something is disrupting its function.

In terms of food storage, one should always keep the food container closed. It is needed so that there would be less moisture inside the refrigerator that could contribute to the high consumption of energy by refrigerators. Another method is to keep the refrigerator full. The word full means putting just enough food and drinks inside the refrigerator without disrupting its regular task. Through this way, one could maximize the benefits of an energy saving refrigerator. In line with proper storage, do not keep foods inside the refrigerator if the chances of throwing it away are much stronger than keeping it. Once this food is forgotten, it would become spoiled and would not be a great contribution in terms of smell and function of the refrigerator.

Enough storage space is important for an energy saving refrigerator because a refrigerator would not function well if the refrigerator is crowded. The space will give enough breathing room and will complement the best functioning condition of the refrigerator. Aside from that, prevent placing hot food inside the refrigerator because the refrigerators would need to work twice as hard so that it could cool down the food. If this happens, then there would be more energy consumed. Another requirement to make a refrigerator not so energy-consuming is to unplug it if there's no perishable food inside.

The next step in having an energy saving refrigerator is to actually acquire one. New models of refrigerators are designed to consume half of the energy consumed by older models of refrigerators. If you'd like to make sure that you get the best less-enery consuming refrigerator available, you should have ample time and patience to compare various brands and models of fridges.

An energy saving refrigerator need not be expensive because just a regular priced one would do. Just be sure to follow the requirements and the things that are needed to be done in order to have a new and improved energy saving refrigerator.

Today's lifestyle is all about spending and having the best appliances, the best furniture, and the best electronic equipment – but it also means saving energy for the future. The best electronic equipment won't work if you don't have energy to use. The best furniture will go to waste in a house that doesn't have electricity. And the best appliances will be for nothing if your house is not an energy saving house.

So, how can you build and maintain an energy saving house? The keywords are insulate, ventilate, and clean.

Since some appliances require a warm ambient temperature to run, an energy saving house should be well insulated. Seal all cracks in windows, doors, and walls to keep the heat in and the cold out.

Warm rooms are a requirement in an energy saving house, so install fully insulated doors on all entrances to rooms which are exposed to cold, such as garages, cold storage, and basements. However, save on your heating bill by not heating these rooms, and instead invest on insulating your house properly.

Upgrade the windows in your energy saving house to high efficiency windows, such as those equipped with insulated spacers and argon gas fill. Cover windows or openings with clear plastic sheeting, especially during the winter. This is a cheap and easy way to keep out drafts.

You can also cover your windows with insulated, thermal-backed drapes. These will cool your house down and reduce your air-conditioning costs during the summer, while they can keep your house warm and reduce your heating costs in the winter.

Keep the walls of your energy saving house free from cracks and openings. If you have unfinished rooms or chambers, check for spider webs. Cobwebs are a sign of a draft, so clean those webs away and shut those drafts out.

An energy saving house should be covered with a good roof – and the best is a reflective one, which can reduce your roof's surface temperature by up to 60 degrees fahrenheit, keeping the sun out, and lowering your air-conditioning costs.

An energy saving house is also well ventilated. However, you don't have to spend a lot on buying and maintaining air conditioners. Install an attic ventilating system. Such a system can cool air through the house during the summer, but can be sealed to keep heat in during the winter. The system can also provide the same level of comfort as conventional air conditioners, but without the high cost, thus keeping your energy saving house cool.

If you want to keep your energy saving house comfortable without a vent or air conditioner, buy ceiling fans. They use much less electricity, and cost only about 5 cents an hour to operate. However, they can costs much more if not well maintained, so clean their blades regularly and keep them dust and cobweb free.

Open your windows during the summer nights to let the air in – but don't forget to turn your air conditioner off. If you have an air conditioner, turn it on only during the day, but close the windows of your energy saving house to keep the cool air in and the warm air out.

An energy saving house is clean. Make sure that all your appliances are free from dirt and dust. Grime on light fixtures can keep them from operating properly, and can increase their energy consumption while lowering their energy output. If you have a sliding glass door, keep its tracks clean. Dirty tracks can destroy door seals and create gaps through which heat can escape.

Buy energy saving appliances such as high efficiency heaters, refrigerators, and washing machines. These appliances not only reduce your electricity costs – they help save the environment as well. When purchasing appliances, buy those labeled with the Energy Star, and look for those with an energy saving switch feature. Such switches can turn your equipment off when they are not needed, and can keep electric consumption at a minimum.

What's an energy saving house without the proper garden to make it look like a home? Plant trees and shrubs to keep your house safe from the wind. These windbreaks can reduce wind by up to 50%, and lower heating costs by up to 20-40%. Plants, moreover, can reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and clean up the air in and around your house.

In the end, an energy saving house is as good as its occupants. Keep it well insulated, well ventilated, and clean – and take care of your appliances. In the end, the effort of switching appliances off, the money invested in energy efficient appliances, and the time spent in keeping your house warm but well cooled and spick and span, will end in better savings, and a better home.

Let's face it: No matter how you budget your finances wisely, things will go out of hand in spite of everything that you have done. There will always be bills to pay and electric bills that escalates high up to the sky.

So, the next best thing to do is to turn your home into an energy saving home so that you can cut-back the bills to as far as 50% from your current total consumption.

How to do that? Here are tips that will guide you in making your home an energy saving home.

1. Create your own energy.

One of the best ways in creating an energy saving home is to produce your own energy. This is, in particular, one of the most lucrative alternatives to hefty electric bills.

One way to make an energy saving home is to use the renewable energy. This means that you will utilize more and maximize the capabilities of unlimited sources of energy like the sea, the sun, or the man-made energy-generating inventions.

These devices are very important especially in places wherein the climate is continuously changing.

2. Make use of the Solar PV.

This is one of the methods that will make your home an energy saving home.

Basically, Solar PV utilizes the energy that is coming from the sun in order to generate energy. The energy that will be produced is the one that will be used to operate different domestic devices and illuminations.

One good thing about Solar PV is that it does not make use of direct sunlight so as to produce energy. It is simply operational during day time.

With Solar PV, you can truly transform your house into an energy saving home. All you have to do is to purchase PV systems and attach them to your wall or roof that is looking towards the south, within the 90 degrees range, provided that there will be no tangible things that will take the limelight out of your house.

3. Use the natural heater.

If you want to turn your home into an energy saving home, it is best that you employ the services of a solar water heating system. This system uses the high temperature coming from the sun and transforms it into your water heater.

Solar water heating system has solar panels that are placed on your roof so as to collect heat coming from the sun's rays. With this system, it naturally heats the water in your water storage system and eventually keeps the heat intact so that you can still use it on the later part of the day.

With Solar water heating system, you can be sure that your home will soon be an energy saving home minus the hefty electric bills.

4. Make a wind mill.

As a part of the energy saving home, small scale winds are also created in order to generate energy coming from the speed of the wind that operates the blades. These blades, in turn, will be the one that will generate electricity for your home.

However, because its energy is fully dependent on the speed of the wind, it is advisable that you place your small scale wind at the highest place in your area.

Nevertheless, using small scale wind can still lessen your electricity consumption and will definitely turn your home into an energy saving home.

5. Insulate your walls.

In order to make an energy saving home, it is best that you do cavity wall insulation. This refers to the insulation system that is placed in between your cavity walls or between the internal and external sheets of bricks that makes up the exterior part of your house.

For most places that have colder temperature, having a cavity wall insulation will definitely make an energy saving home by merely using it. It suspends the release of confined warm air and insulates the wall so as to impede "heat loss."

With the cavity wall insulation, you will no longer make use of your heater, and so, you can save more money by cutting back your electric consumption.

6. Go for that glazed-window.

An energy saving home is one that has glazed-type windows. This means that the windows are layered with a certain protective coating and curbs any possible heat loss.

In this manner, the heat that enters your room or your house, for that matter, will not be lost instantly. And so, with enough heat to warm you through, you no longer have a use for a heater. Simply out, no heater means eliminated high electricity bills.

So, now that you know how to convert your home into an energy saving home, the next thing you have to do is to budget your other finances wisely. It doesn't necessarily mean that with an energy saving home, you'll be confident enough that there will be no high bills to pay and that you indulge into a shopping spree.

Having an energy saving home means there's a solution to your financial problem but not as a means for a bigger financial problem.

Electricity is an essential part of modern living. Almost all of our activities involve the use of technology one way or the other. Just look around your room: notice the alarm clock, the television set, your electric treadmill stationed just around the corner of your bedroom.

Now walk on over to your kitchen and you will notice more manifestations of the use of electricity. Practically all of our appliances rely on electricity to function.

Research has shown that in many households lighting make up 10 to 15 percent of the amount on your electricity bills. That's not a small amount to be paying for the utility of light.

One way to cut back on the cost of lighting would be to avail of the services of sunlight, because the best thing about sunshine is that it is absolutely free. So during the daylight hours try to do your activities under the glow of daylight. Part all of your curtains and let the sunshine in. You'd be surprise what a difference this would make, and how much brighter your rooms will be.

Of course it is absolutely unavoidable not to use artificial light. If you want to save some money when it comes to your lighting system, you can do this by coming up with an energy saving lighting plan.

Replace your old lighting system with an energy saving lighting system. Energy saving lighting products such as: light bulbs, lamps, chandeliers, ceiling fixtures, outdoors lighting come in different shapes, sizes, and wattage. Energy saving lighting wares will save you plenty of money, because they are more efficient and longer lasting.

Energy saving lighting products such as a light bulb radiates more light than the regular bulb or incandescent light, but with a lower wattage. It functions much like fluorescent light in the way it makes the tube's surface light up brightly, with the electric current just passing through the tube. Regular light bulbs waste around 90 percent of their energy by turning it into heat.

If you want to achieve a softer lighting effect, get an energy saving lighting lamps or bulbs that are lower in wattage than you would normally get. An energy saving light bulb that is 6W is about equivalent to a regular bulb that is 25W. So when purchasing energy saving lighting supplies keep this in mind. It also varies depending on the light bulb, so read the product information before purchasing.

Energy saving lighting goods are slightly more expensive than their regular counterparts. But over time you would save more money with these energy saving lighting products because they would reduce your energy intake overall.

When buying energy saving lighting products make sure that there's a logo accompanying it that specifies that it is a certified energy saving lighting product. There are a lot of light bulbs out there in the market that claims to be energy efficient, but this is not always the case.

This is just an example of the ways you can dish out your dough without getting your money's worth. So keep your eyes open and inspect your energy lighting items before buying.

Strategically placing your energy saving lighting fixtures can save you a lot of money by focusing the lighting only where it is needed. You can use softer lights in the background, therefore minimizing your energy output. Task lighting is what you call this tactic of maneuvering lights. It is often used by hotels, office buildings, and other establishments.

Also using less lighting means you are using less energy. This minimizes the effusion of greenhouse gas. This way, you are not only cutting back on the cost of your electrical bill, but you are also helping to protect the environment.

Energy saving lighting technology is becoming widespread. A lot of office and commercial buildings are switching to energy saving lighting fixtures.

It is projected that if all commercial buildings switch to energy saving lighting system around 40 percent of energy used for lighting would be reduced. This would significantly help in reducing carbon dioxide emission. Not only will switching to energy saving lighting save energy; it will help lessen the pollution.

You can do this now by starting with your own homes. By economizing your use of light, and switching to energy saving lighting fixtures; you would not only cut down on the cost of your electrical bill, but also help to protect the environment.

Now that you know all the goodness that energy saving lighting brings it is time to make that switch. Knowing that you are saving money will surely make your day a brighter day.

Oil is what makes the world go round and not love as they claim to be. While flowers and chocolates prove to be expensive in the long run, so does using electricity inefficiently. We have seen what has happened with the price of oil in the world market as it has been continuously climbing. Once the oil supply has been depleted or goes to a level deemed to be an all time low, the world would need to buy wax and start making those candles. Unless they find other sources of energy from where to draw our needs. Other sources include geothermal, solar, and nuclear energy. Scientists have been studying how to effectively utilize each but success rates have not produced the desired inclination towards their use.

But before we get to living day in, day out by candle light, better install an energy saving switch in your home that would help you conserve energy that can further lengthen the availability of oil, albeit scarcely.

Proponents to save energy have suggested different methods and ways on how to conserve energy. One of which is the energy saving switch. How does the energy saving switch works?

The basic definition of a switch applies here. Accordingly, the simplest definition of a switch is that of a device that can connect or disconnect the circuit to produce electric current.

How does an energy saving switch come about? Because of the predilection to save energy, the energy saving switch is the simplest system that you can set up in your house towards your cost-saving efforts.

As light is the basic need of every household, this accounts a major consumption in every unit. Studies have shown that 20 percent is the ratio can be assigned to the use of light. The energy saving switch therefore provides you the ability to reduce your costs significantly.

Prior years before they were able to make the dimmer switch more efficient as it was still using a resistor that was largely variable known as the rheostat, it was found out to have been wasting more energy than necessary. It was also producing a proportionally high amount of heat. The heat is being emitted by the light bulb. How is this so? Assuming that a 50-watt bulb was set at half bright, more energy is used to an amount close to 10-watts to make the rheostat function properly.

With the introduction of more modern means of maximizing the use of dimmer switches as an energy saving switch device, the use of a new device called TRIAC was put in place. TRIAC is a transistor that has the capability to move electrical current at a speed of 0.0083333 per second. The effect of TRIAC is that it chops the electrical current being produced. The common electrical power in use is the AC power which stands for alternating current. It has been labeled as such since the electrical current flowing is equally distributed to be positive and negative half of the time. When an electrical power uses AC power at 60 cycles, this means that half the cycle (0.0041666 per second) is positive and the other half is negative. Using the electrical saving switch with an AC power then reduces the consumption of electrical power.

The energy saving switch under these conditions sets the level of electrical consumption that is used. Other variables that can affect the level of electrical consumption aside from the energy saving switch include the number of appliances inside the house, the number of household members in the house, the rate of electricity, the usage level of each member.

The energy saving switch has significant contributions in reducing the amount of energy being consumed for each household. The energy saving switch therefore provides a mean in becoming more energy conscious by conserving the energy, more so by lengthening the life expectancy of each lighting device, be that an incandescent bulb or fluorescent lights.

Start contributing to cause of energy conservation by installing energy saving switches where you think it is necessary to do so. This energy saving switch will go a long way in ensuring that electrical power as we know it to be driven by oil will still be here in the next 50 years.

When the going gets tough, and the tough just keeps on going, there is no better way to live your life to the fullest than to incorporate some energy saving devices so as to salt away.

Consequently, if you are a mom with growing kids and a tight budget, money is always on your mind. You may always ask yourself: "Can I put my child through college? Will I be able to travel the world after retirement? Should I get those cute new shoes? All these questions force you to do math. You may not always get the answers you want, but getting acquainted with the ways of money will help you create equations for you.

Sounds like it is easier said than done? Think again.

The good thing about saving is that you really don't have to start with something that you will find a hard time practicing. In fact, for many wise moms, saving can start from the tiniest factor known as-the light bulb.

Yes! Light bulbs are very crucial in establishing a reduced energy consumption. That is why most energy-conscious manufacturers had come up with a more efficient and a more practical energy saving bulbs.

Energy saving bulbs has always been considered as one of the main factors of a lower electricity bill. This is because energy saving bulbs generates lower energy consumptions but projects the same amount of light.

Moreover, energy saving bulbs generates lower wattage compared to other types of bulbs and other lighting devices. For example, an ordinary bulb would generate a 25 watts energy for illumination, but with an energy saving bulb you can get the same illumination from a 6 watts light bulb.

The Modern Light Bulbs

Because the market is in demand of energy saving bulbs, manufacturers from all over the world had invented the so-called energy saving bulbs equipped with more energy saving features. One of which is the innovative utilization of light emitting diodes or LEDs.

Today, most energy saving bulbs utilizes the concept of LEDs. The great thing about this innovative feature of an energy saving bulb is that it produces such strong and powerful light without having to generate a great amount of energy. That's twice the light of an ordinary bulb but doubly lesser in energy consumption as compared to most lighting devices.

What is more, the advantages of LEDs in an energy saving bulb are:

1. LED energy saving bulbs are more solid in form, thus, it is more durable against bump and jarring.

2. Energy saving bulbs with LEDs lasts longer than any type of lights. Comparatively, energy saving bulbs with LEDs last 10 times longer compared to compact fluorescents, and 133 times more enduring than an ordinary incandescent bulbs.

3. Energy saving bulbs with LEDs are more durable because they do not contain filaments which makes a typical incandescent bulb totally useless when dropped or broken.

4. Because energy saving bulbs with LEDs do not generate so much energy, it provides a cooler environment than what incandescent bulbs can do.

5. LED-enabled energy saving bulbs do not flicker. Therefore, it reduces the annoying effects of glittering, which can be very distressing especially under low-light condition.

In totality, energy saving bulbs are certainly power busters because their life span is actually longer than the most common incandescent bulbs. This means that the cost of maintenance and replacement is greatly reduced.

The bottom line is that, it doesn't need special skills or special device just to save more energy or cut down your electricity bills. All you have to do is to incorporate the value of saving. We should learn how to save and conserve energy. It is the primary factor in living a healthy and worry-free life.

Utilizing and maximizing your energy saving bulbs is just one great idea of saving. There are still a thousand of energy saving tips out there waiting to be considered. All you have to do is to maximize their potential in conserving the energy that you want.

But keep in mind that you should not also depend on the powers of energy saving bulbs alone when it comes into slashing down your electricity bill. Your habit can also be a great factor.

Simply put: Turn off lights when not in use.

With work keeping us constantly on the run, it's hard to keep track of what equipment is on or off, and how much energy we're using while working. Thankfully, most of today's appliances have an energy saving switch, which can turn them on when we need them, and off when we're gone.

Also known as a power saver switch, or a smart saver switch, the energy saving switch can help control the amount of energy being used by an appliance at any time. The energy saving switch can come in the form of a sensor, a timer, or a manual switch to keep equipment from overheating.

When purchasing electronic equipment, invest in something with an energy saving switch. The function has already been installed in lights, refrigerators, computers, fans, and even washing machines!

Lighting has become such an integral part of our busy lives that we often take it for granted that lights can consume a lot of energy, and thus have to be switched off when not in use. As a result, most lighting equipment has been outfitted with an energy saving switch, which can also take the form of a sensor.

Sensors can sense motion or occupancy in a room. They work by emitting infrared or ultrasonic waves. Infrared waves pick up minute changes in a room's light background. Ultrasonic waves, on the other hand, sense motion. Once a person walks into a dark room with such a sensor, the lights go on as if by magic. The real magic, however, is when the energy saving switch works. Once a person leaves, the lights go off.

Refrigerators are also outfitted with an energy saving switch. The switch keeps the refrigerator running efficiently even during warm weather, and stops condensation and mold growth in parts of the refrigerator which are uninsulated. This prevents the refrigerator motor from overworking, and can thus save electricity.

When buying refrigerators, make sure that your model has the energy saving switch feature. Sometimes, however, the feature may allow moisture to form between the freezer and refrigerator compartments, effectively lowering the cooling efficiency of the refrigerator. Take great care to ensure that you use the energy saving switch prudently.

Most cooling fans and air-conditioning units are also equipped with an energy saving switch. This can come in the form of a timer, which makes sure that the unit is turned on for only as long as it is needed.

Computers are one of the most heavily used appliances, whether at home or in the office, and are thus on for the greater part of the day. The computer's energy saving switch comes in the form of a "sleep mode," which is set by the user. In this state, a computer will use up 15 watts or less power – 70% less than if the computer is left on and idle.

Note that a computer's energy saving switch is different from the system's screen saver. A screen saver is actually an energy wasting switch. In fact, a computer's power down feature may not work at all if a screen saver is being used.

When buying computers, look for models with the Energy Star label. If you have to keep your computer on for whatever reason, activate its energy saving switch, or turn the monitor off. If you have to keep your computer on and idle for more than four hours, it would be best to completely shut it down. This way, your computer will use up less energy, and will last longer.

Washing machines have their own energy saving switch, this time in the form of a load sensor. Once clothes are dry, the drier will stop working, thus reducing energy consumption and electricity bills.

The most recent energy saving switch is the smart power strip. These strips act as sensors, and can turn on or off the equipment they are attached to, depending on whether people are present or absent in a room.

Contrary to popular belief, more energy is saved if lights and equipment are switched off whenever they are not needed. If you wish to install an energy saving switch, visit your local hardware store and inquire about it. An energy saving switch, after all, really does live up to its name – and it might save you money and time when properly invested in and used.

There are times that life can be so frustrating, especially when bills piles up and numerous hefty amount of charges adds up just because your present finances can no longer suffice your expenses.Worst, your electric bills seem to escalate like mounds.

Ever wonder if you can still do something about it?

Of course, you can. All you have to do is to learn some home energy saving tip. Home energy saving tips are not just fancy things or advertisements of some energy saving products. Home energy saving tips offer more than just advices, they are very useful especially when you really want to save more money on electricity. PLus, home energy saving tips can also be the right way to protect your home from inevitable circumstances such fire and other accidents.

Just follow these seven home energy saving tips and your life will be back to its normal happy phase.

Here's how:

1. Be natural.

Like any concept of living a simple yet fully satisfied life, the key to it is based on the concept of being natural. It also applies to your household.

One great home energy saving tip is to make use of the innate and the biological characteristic of light. Nothing comes close to the energy it brings, aside from the fact that it can cut down your electric bills.

And so,as a home energy saving tip, try to create a chance for the light to pass through your window and to the rooms. It would be best if you use curtains sparingly. If you really want to use curtains, try to consider the material. Of course, do not use dark-colored curtains as this will curb the entry of natural light into your home.

Best of all, make it a point that whenever you have to read or make use of your study table, place it near the window or in any place where you can get enough natural light.

2. Cleaning means saving more money.

Indeed, cleaning can serve many purposes. Aside form the fact that it makes your appliances on top shape, it can also provide greater ways on how to conserve energy and save more money.

Another great home energy saving tip is to make a regular cleaning schedule of your refrigerator. This is because when dirt builds up inside your refrigerator, especially on the coils, the tendency is that it will get "clogged". And the moment it gets clog, the compressor will definitely work harder just to keep the insides cool. The harder it works, the higher bills will be accumulated.

3. Never rely on nippy fixes.

You may be very busy and can be extremely tired already once you get home but still have to prepare dinner. In most instances, housewives just place the frozen food in the microwave to thaw. One more home energy saving tip is to stop doing it.

If you know the kind of menu you will prepare once you get home, then, it is best that you plan ahead of time. As a home energy saving tip, get the item, remove it from the freezer and place it in the lower part of your refrigerator. By the time you get home, the food is ready to cook.

4. Turn off lights when not in use.

This home energy saving tip is basically as old as electricity itself since its inception. The amount of electricity being consumed by a light that is of no use can be adding up a hefty amount of charges in your electricity bill.

So,it is always better save energy and at the same time save more money. That is one home energy saving tip that can help you through.

5. Lower heater temperature means lower bills.

Another effective home energy saving tip that you may try is to lower your heater's amount of heat. By doing so, you may reduce your energy consumption and, thus, cut back your electricity bill. You will just be surprised once you receive your billing statement.

6. Stay put.

If you are a person who seems to be fidgety and wants to reopen the refrigerator most of the times, then it is best that you change your habit. Engaging into this kind of habit will definitely make your electric consumption shoot high up in the air.

Basically, compressors in the refrigerator work double time whenever somebody opens its doors. So, the more openings you have, the harder the compressors will work; and the harder it works, the higher the energy consumption will be accumulated, thus, higher electricity bills.

As a home energy saving tip: do not open your refrigerator unless you have get something important.

7. Use energy saving lights.

If your home really needs illumination, then, it is best that you use energy saving lights.

As another home energy saving tip, you may opt for fluorescent lights and incandescent lamps that provide great lighting but does not consume too much energy. In this way, you only not have a better illumination, you save hefty amount of money as well.

So, now you know that saving energy also requires a lot of hard work and effort. The bottom line is that if you want to save on electricity, better resort to simple living. Do not be compelled of the things that technology is giving us. As most philosophers believe, it always pays to be back to basics.

Have you ever felt your window as cold as ice during the winter or burning hot during the summer, while your heater (or air conditioner) is operating at full blast? If so, you are definitely throwing money out the window ! Consider making changes on your existing window, before you have to sell your heater (or A/C) to pay for energy bills.

Window technology has improved dramatically in recent years because of the conscious effort to save on energy. Below are some of the features to improve the thermal efficiency window.

1. Glazing.

Gone are the days when a window is made up of a frame, a glass pane and a latch. Today, energy-efficient window-designs require a minimum of two (2) layers of glass, called double-glazed windows. Double-glazing insulates almost twice as well as single glazing (single glass pane). It is also possible to add a third or fourth layer to further improve the results. Some of these windows use clear glass only; others opt to install additional layer of thin plastic films for tinting as well as further insulation.

2. Thickness of air space.

In between the two glass panes in a double-glazed window is a space filled with the air. With a thicker air space, the window will be better insulated because it will have a better transfer of heat. Thicknesses range from " to 1". If the air is wider than 1", however, there is no further gain in performance.

3. Type of air in the space.

Traditional double-glazed windows were filled with air or flushed with dry nitrogen to ensure that the air does not leak. In a sealed glass pane, heat is carried to the top of the air space while cold pools settle at the bottom. By filling the space with a less conductive gas like argon (Ar), carbon dioxide (CO2), krypton (Kr), and argon-krypton mixtures, the overall transfer of heat between the inside and outside is reduced. It should be noted that the thickness of the airspace also depends on the kind of gas that is used to fill it.

4. Edge spacers.

What holds the panes of glass apart are the edge spacers. These also provide the airtight seal in the window. Before, hollow-aluminum channels filled with desiccant beads were used as edge spacers. Since Aluminum is a highly conductive material, heat loss (or gain) is now occurring through the edges. Improvements to the material used include thin-walled steel with thermal breaks, or silicone foam or butyl rubber. A low-cost option when ordering windows would be to consider insulating edge seals with traditional aluminum spacers.

5. Low-E coatings.

Low-emittance (Low-E) coating are very thin, metal or metallic oxide layers set on a window glazing surface primarily to improve the heat transfer (reduce the U-factor). Heat is transferred in multilayer glass from a warm pane to a cooler pane. With a low-emittance coated material facing the air space between the glass layers, it blocks a significant amount of heat transfer, thus reducing the total heat flow through the window. Different types of low-e treatment are now available for different climate zones and different applications in any particular location.

Enough about the glass pane, let's now focus on the materials surrounding the glass, the window frame. Different kinds of materials can be used for the encasement, depending on aesthetics (suits the design of the home), durability (resistance to storm, wind or extreme weather) and, of course, energy efficiency (U-factor). Metals (aluminum, or light metal) for example are lightweight and easy to clean, but conducts heat rapidly. If metals must be used for window frames, ensure to place insulating material between the inside and outside of the frame and sash. Wood (natural and composite) have better thermal properties, but must be treated for moisture and termite decay. Natural wood also contracts and expands through weather changes and can be heavy and thick, thus reducing the view and light passing through. Plastics (fiberglass, PVC, vinyl) have the highest thermal resistance as compared to the previous, especially if treated with insulation. It has good moisture resistance and need no painting because color treatment is already incorporated in its production. However, at extreme temperatures, they may expand, warp or crack. Also, if exposed to sunlight for long hours, colors tend to fade over time.

Lastly, here are simple steps to ensure you are buying an energy-efficient window:

a. Look for NFRC label as your guide to energy performance (U-rating) and to suit your climate, before buying a window.

b. Choose windows with good warranties against the loss of the air seal. If the glazing seal is lost, not only will fogging occur, but also any low-conductivity gas between the layers of glass will immediately be lost.

c. Hire only skilled contractors to install your new windows. This will ensure that they will perform as well as they should.

What else are you waiting for? STOP throwing money OUT YOUR WINDOW!

In this modern age, technological appliances abound everyone. Even at home, technology is present. Indeed technology helped ease the lives of the people. But these appliances and other home products that promised to make the life easier have become money suckers.

These appliances take on big costs in terms of energy consumption. Thanks to some ingenuous people, they find a way to cut the cost of energy consumption. Let's take a look on some of the energy saving devices offered in the market today.

Save on water consumption by installing a Circulation Pump. In order for the user to get hot water, he has to push a button attached on the basin cabinet. The switch then takes on the pump that would draw water from a hot water tank. This would concurrently push the cold water to the pipes inside going back to the tank. Good thing about this is that when the pump senses that the hot water has arrived at the sink, the pump automatically shuts off. In this case, both the water and the energy are saved because instead of allowing the water to run until it gets hot, the pump is the one which does the transportation of the water from the heater.

Another device could be installed to reduce the consumption of hot water. A Pedal Valve could be installed at the kitchen sink. This is operated by stepping on the pedal. The foot operation would then allow the water to flow from the spigot. This could be done even without turning on regular faucet controls. This valve would cut the waste of water during washing tasks.

A Heat-Pump Water Heater is another device designed to cut the energy consumption of water heating. In this case, the water-pump water heater works like the back of a refrigerator. But instead of releasing the heat inside the house (that would generate heat inside), the pump gets the heat of the house and deposits it to the water heater.

Lighting is a must everywhere in the house, which is why the T-8 and T-5 bulbs attached under the cabinets, is introduced. The soffit-mounted cabinet lights and fluorescent under the cabinet lighting now substitute the incandescent lighting installed in kitchens and other rooms. What's good about this type of lighting system is that it does away with the shadows caused by the cabinets.

Exhaust fans seem to be crashing on the energy bills too. Save on the energy consumption by changing your old exhaust fans with those that use only 20 percent of the wattage of any standard exhaust fan. A standard exhaust fan use 100 watts, but the energy-saving exhaust fan use only 20 watts and gives out the same volume of air delivery. Another thing about these fans is that it uses a light panel with a compact fluorescent bulb. These types of bulbs are also energy savers. These fans are also quieter when running than other exhaust fans. Now that's a bonus!

The gas fireplace added with some special devices could be used as home heaters. Optional ducts have to be added to transport hot air everywhere in the house. Instead of the chimney, the exhaust could be channeled through an exhaust opening that is cut on an exterior wall. This is because the unit is directly vented.

In order to do this a frame should be built. A hole should also be cut on the exterior wall together with the installation of a gas line and an electrical wiring.

When the exterior wall is already cut, a fire-stop should be installed. This would defend the drywall from extreme heat. The fire-stop is placed on the hole on pre-drilled holes using drywall screws. After that, the fireplace should be slid into the rough opening. A first vent pipe, with a fiberglass collar, should be installed on top of the fireplace. The pipe is twisted and locks into place. A 90-degree elbow is to be installed on top of the first vent-pipe section.

The last interior vent pipe is to be connected to the elbow. Outside, a shot vent-pipe should be running through the opening. It should be installed with a termination cap. This is to be placed at the end of the vent pipe and should be fastened to the exterior wall. After doing this, the fireplace should be fastened to a wood frame with screws. The gas line should also be connected and after that tested. After testing, the fireplace should be wired to the home's thermostat. This should be done in accordance to the manufacturer's instructions.

These are just some of the energy-saving devices on the market. But these devices should not be made a reason to be a wastrel. These are just devices that would help lessen the consumption and cutting on the consumption costs still depends on the use of such appliances.

Got sky-high energy bills? Here are some useful hints in saving energy at home. Take on these advices and see the results for yourself!

1. Save on electricity. Never ever boil water in an open pot. Water boils faster in a covered pot. This is because heat is locked within the pot and hot air does not evaporate.

2. Always keep the refrigerator coils clean. Clogged refrigerator coils make it hard to maintain the cold on the food in side.

3. In baking, use ceramic or glass pans rather than tin pans. Use of such materials for baking lowers the cooking temperature by 25 degrees.

4. Avoid defrosting food from the microwave. Instead, place the food in the refrigerator or the kitchen sink to defrost it.

5. Instead of using the dishwasher's air dry cycle, do it manually. Have your dishes sit on the countertop and let it air dry.

6. Use your dishwasher because it saves more water than hand-washing your dishes.

7. Reduce the moisture by wrapping everything stored in the refrigerator. This would stop the condenser from overworking itself.

8. Turn down the thermostat. Save up to 5% on heating costs by lowering the heater ten degrees lower than the usual. Wearing warm clothing both during the day and the evening would help keep you warm.

9. Turn off lights when not in use. Unplug appliances that are not in use. Turn off kitchen and bathroom exhausts after they have done their job. In short, stop wasting energy.

10.Keep the water heater's setting to "Normal" this would save you 7-11% of water heating costs.

11.Cut your showering time. Lessen shower heating costs as well as water consumption by not staying under the shower too long.

12.Efficiently use your appliances. Instead of making rounds of a few dishes or clothes on your washers, why not maximize the use of these appliances and at the same time cut the energy costs.

13.Put the computer and monitor to sleep if you have to leave the computer for 5 to 15 minutes. This will cut the wattage consumed by your computer.

14.Installing low flow showerheads will save you 10-16% of water heating costs.

15.Try wrapping the hot water tank with jacket insulation. But be sure to leave the air intake vent uncovered when insulating a gas water heater. Using this would save you up to 10% on water heating costs.

16.Installing a programmable heat thermostat can save you 15% on energy costs. This works well with heat pumps.

17.Increasing the ceiling insulation reduce heating costs by 5-25%.

18.Stop ductworks from leaking. Seal ducts and save more than 25% on heating costs.

19.New furnaces are more energy efficient than the old models.

20.Consider replacing your older model refrigerator, especially if older than 10 years. Older models can often use over three times than energy of the newer models.

21.When washing clothes, use warm or cold water and rinse with sold water. Instead of using the dryers, air-dry the clothes outside.

22.Close the fireplace damper and keep the opening shut when not in use.

23.During the heating season, open south-facing window coverings during the day. Keep all the window coverings at night to prevent the heat from escaping.

24.Install foam gaskets behind the electric outlet and switch plate covers.

25.Install automatic setback thermostats that adjust the room temperature in accordance to your daily schedule.

26.Having a do-it-yourself weather stripping and caulking installed to seal off air leaks will help you save energy in the long run. Sealing all the perimeter wall penetrations and floor and ceiling penetrations will stop all the air movement between the unheated and heated spaces.

27.Use motion sensors and timers for security devices instead. Having security devices installed doesn't mean you don't have to save on energy.

28.Replacing the halogen torchiere floor lamp wit a CFL model would not only save on energy but it's safer to use too.

29. Tune up furnace filters annually and replace them too. The dirtier the filter is, the harder it would be for the fan furnace to work.

30.Install a metal sheet fireplace cover.

Wise buyers know that before they buy things, they should consider first other alternatives in order to maximize their savings. This is truly applicable especially these days, where everything seems to be escalating to greater heights like water, electricity bills, food, and gas. What's more, these situations can be very alarming because most of the commodities that are priced so high are basic commodities. This, in turn, will make our lives more difficult.

So, it is a must that you equip yourself with energy saving devices so as to cut down energy consumption at the least. One way is to establish an energy saving home.

How to do that? Here's how:

1. Assess and analyse your house.

In order to establish an energy saving home, it is a must that you have your house checked for any leakage that causes heat loss or extreme heat accumulation. If these areas are taken for granted, using heat and cooling systems will only trigger high energy consumption rate.

By hiring the experts, you will know where the problem is situated, thus, you will know where to start fixing and repairing so as to come up with an energy saving home.

2. Seal any forms of leaks and seepage

After the assessment, it is best to seal right away any forms of leaks and seepage so as to establish an energy saving home.

Normally, higher consumption of energy are brought about by hidden leaks that causes the elimination of inside heat, in the same way as it triggers the penetration of outside heat. In this manner, using heating and cooling system will just be useful and will only escalate your electricity bills.

Usually, leaks are found in fireplace dampers, chimneys and walls that are not properly insulated, attic access hatches, electrical outlets, windows, and dropped ceilings. Fix any leakage on these areas and you can be assured of an energy saving home.

3. Improve non-energy saving windows and doors

As mentioned, the main factors that affect the energy efficiency of your home are the windows and doors, where heat commonly escapes and penetrates. So, in order to build an energy saving home, it is best that you consider on changing your doors and windows into an energy saving devices.

First, you must install some energy saving windows in your energy saving home. These windows are those that are properly insulated or those that are glazed.

Then, obtain an energy saving door. These should provide enough seal when mounted. It should have films or any devices that seals in any gaps or cracks in the door. By doing so, you are already establishing an energy saving home.

4. Insulation

In order to maximize an energy saving home, it is a must that you properly insulate the panels, walls, and floors of your house.

An energy saving home without a properly insulated cavity wall is vulnerable to higher energy consumption rates. Therefore, it is best to insulate the cavity walls so as to prevent the escape of heat during cold season and penetration of heat during summer time.

Insulating your floors is also important so as to maximize your energy saving home. Most often than not, cold can penetrate inside the house through the floors that are not properly insulated. This is caused by the gaps between the floorboards that serves as entry and escape point of heat and cold.

So, in order to establish an energy saving home, it is a must that you check all areas that need to be insulated.

These entire things boil down to the point that when you have an energy saving home, you can be more assured of more savings.

In fact, utilizing and maximizing the potentials of an energy saving home is not only beneficial to most individuals alone but to the community as a whole. This mean that when somebody is able to save energy to the point that everybody follows, the energy found in our midst are properly utilized at the same time well taken cared for. In the end, it will give us more chances of using it in a longer period of time.

For those who don't know, energy can be used up. This means that if we don't act now and establish an energy saving home, chances are we might lose all the energy that we have in the near future.

The bottom line is that energy conservation is not only beneficial to the economy but to the environment at the most.

When you start out a family, you have to know the basics of energy saving to make sure that everything goes according to budget and nothing is wasted. An energy saving house is what you need: this is a house that knows all the rudimentaries of saving, from picking out energy-efficient appliances to knowing the proper materials to use for renovation.

An energy saving house is what every family must know by heart. If all houses are governed by the basic rules and regulations of energy saving, then millions of dollars will be saved and properly utilized!

So attention to all homeowners! Let me take you to a step-by-step guide on how your house will be transformed to an energy saving one. These steps are easy ones – baby steps, we may call them – and you can employ them to each room of the house, but once these baby steps convene together, you have dramatic energy savings right there.

A. Bathroom

1. Believe it: bath uses three times more water than taking a shower. So what do you do next time? Take a shower for your energy saving house.

2. We all love soaking in the tub to drive the stress away. What we do often is the hotter the water, the better. Now save some energy for your house and don't overdo the heat.

3. An energy saving house does not have dripping faucets. Save as much as 4000 gallons every month by saying byebye to dripping faucets.

4. We develop this habit of turning the faucet on when we brush our teeth. What's up with that? Turn off the faucet and brush your teeth. Hurray for 3650 gallons of water that you can save for a year if you do just that.

5. An energy saving house has a very convenient medicine cabinet. Stock up with medicines in large containers, ditch the trash and live healthily and frugally!

B. Kitchen

1. When we wash the dishes, we tend to leave the water on. That's a big no-no if we're eyeing an energy saving house.

2. Leave the oven door closed at times when you're whipping up something. Remember that 1/4 of the heat goes out when the door is left open.

3. Remember that when you're frying something or just practically cooking, place the lids on pans. The food gets cooked faster that way.

4. We raid the fridge all the time and we spend a lot of time choosing what food to eat, leaving the refrigerator door open for a long time. Be steadfast on your food decisions then open the door and close it right away. That's how an energy saving house works.

5. You know what? Why do you have to use an electrical mixer or batter when you mix something? Why not do it yourself?

6. Again, an energy saving house contains a kitchen cabinet that knows recyclable materials and containers.

C. Bedroom

1. Keep the sun from heating your room in full blast by closing the curtains every morning. This is best applicable during summer when the sun runs amok.

2. We all know how cold it gets when winter arrives, but instead of turning up the heater to its maximum level, why not just cover yourself up with a bunch of blankets? This paves the way for a bigtime energy saving house.

3. This is a basic rule that was taught to us since we were kids: turn off the light when no one is inside the room. An energy saving house does not use up too much light, remember that.

4. Rule of thumb: an energy saving house makes use of fluorescent light bulbs because they save about 40 percent energy! So replace all your bulbs with fluorescent light right now and see the difference when your energy bill comes along.

D. Laundry

1. Cold water must be utilized when doing the laundry. If you switch to hot water, that's just close to saying that you are wasting as much as ninety percent energy!

2. Skip the dryer when we're talking about small objects like handkerchiefs and socks.

3. Simple but important rule for an energy saving house: leave the fuse box alone!

Let's face it. Nowadays, everything seems to be on their way to the top, and that is, prices are getting higher each day.

You have done everything you could just to save more for the future. You have tried all the advices of the experts. You have listened to everything your expenses guru tells you. You have incorporated every innovative ways just to cut down electricity bills. You did your best, but then, it seems that your best is not good enough.

Feeling despair and totally isolated from the world of worry-free life, you sulk in the corner as if it is already the end of the world.

Weep no more, because there are still devices and advices that may help you lower your electricity bills and lessen your expenses so as to live the life of your dreams.

One of which is the energy saving heater. But it is not what you think it is. It is not a new device that will again hoard up lots of money from you. It is simply a new way of maximizing your heating system without having to consume more energy.

The secret? Convert your heaters into an energy saving heater.

The Energy Saving Heater

Statistics show that heating is the next largest energy consumption in a typical home nowadays. This means that the mere energy consumed by heaters account to almost "two-thirds" of the yearly consumption rate of places with colder climates.

Thus, it is extremely important to utilize the energy saving heater so as to conserve more energy and eventually lower your electricity bills.

However, the main concerns of the majority is to whether or not they have to eliminate their existing and fully functional heaters just so they could utilize the energy saving heater.

Actually, it depends. There are heating systems that are not suitable for an energy saving heater conversion. But in most heating system, it can be.

The Concept

Generally, in order to convert your present heating system into an energy saving heater, you must first obtain some devices that will provide your heaters the ability to heat the water in your house without having to use the electricity.

This is made possible through the use of solar energy.

Today, there are many devices that are already incorporating the concept of solar energy. This is because people have come to realize that the energy coming form the sun is actually just the same, if not greater, energy that we consume in our house.

So, when people have learned how solar energy generates electricity and other forms of energy, manufacturers instantly invented some devices that will maximize the utilization of the solar energy.

The Solar Water Heater

Today, more and more people are utilizing solar energy into their heating system. Thus, energy saving heater is now generated and utilized.

Energy saving heaters work with the three main components of solar energy generating system. These are the heat transfer system, the solar panels, and the hot cylinder.

Basically, in an energy saving heater system, the primary step is to mount the solar panels into your roofs. This will generate the much needed solar energy to be used in your energy saving heater.

Then, the heat transfer system will be the one to transfer the collected heat in order to be utilized by your energy saving heater. In this manner, you can have a daily dose of hot water without having to use electricity.

With the hot water cylinder of your energy saving heater, the remaining hot water are stored so that you will always have an available supply of hot water that you can use all throughout the day.

In case that your present heating system is not suitable to employ the services of energy saving heaters, then it is best that you just buy another energy saving heater. Don't be despaired if you think it will cost you another hefty amount of money.

Just bear in mind that the cost it will take you to put up an energy saving heater is actually smaller when compared to how much you will pay with your electricity bills by using the same old energy monster heater. After all, it is always better to be sure now than to be sorry later.

We cannot control weather and the temperature but we can manage and reduce our household's energy consumption and the amount of bills we have to pay for cooling and heating our home.

According to observations, the home's heating system is the biggest user of energy during winter and it accounts to 35 to 65 percent of our household's total monthly energy bill. Air conditioning, on the other hand, which is also expensive, can easily get lost with the external temperature of the outdoors.

With these, this article lists down some energy saving ideas that can help you lower your monthly energy consumption and bills no matter what the season and the weather is.

Let's start first with heating system. The first energy saving idea for this appliance is to make sure that all doors and windows are closed during periods where it is cold. Caulk and weather strip your doors including your windows so as to avoid letting cold air get in. Aside from this, close the damper when the fireplace is not being used. These energy saving ideas and procedures will save you 6 percent on your bills.

Another energy saving idea is to open the windows' drapes and blinds in the morning to let the sun's warmth enter your home. And, close them during at night to let the warm in and the cold out. Turning down the heater before going to bed is also a good energy saving idea. Have this programmed to increase the heat an hour before you wake up so that way you wake up to a warm house.

For those who are using heat pumps: an energy saving idea would be for you to avoid raising the heat at more that 2-4 degrees Fahrenheit in periods because this activates the heating strips which can significantly increase energy consumption.

The fourth energy saving idea for heating systems, which also works for cooling systems, is insulation. The heat produced by a heating system will be absorbed by a non-insulated home's floors, ceilings and walls. To avoid this, make sure that you get insulation that has great "R-value". The higher it is, the better insulation you can get. An R-38 insulation can reduce energy consumption to up to 25 percent while R-49 insulation is typically recommended for homes in the Northwest.

The fifth energy saving idea is to make sure that the filters of the house furnace is clean and in good condition. Obstructions in the filters will make the heating system use more energy to generate heat in the home. Have all heating equipment checked by qualified heating professionals every year.

And the last tip for saving energy from heaters is to try wearing layered clothing inside your home. This is the simplest energy saving idea to maintain your body heat and to prevent you from increasing the temperature from your heating system

Apart from heating systems, there are also great energy saving ideas for your air conditioners, as well. The first one is to check the model of your air-conditioner. Consider the SEER ( Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rating of the equipment you plan to buy wherein the minimum SEER rating is 10. Always aim for a higher SEER rating than this. According to studies, a SEER rating equal to 16 would help you reduce 40 percent from cooling expenses.

Another great but practical energy saving idea is to provide shade for your house by using natural landscapes, awnings and shades. You can also paint your roof with reflective paints that reflect back the sun and its heat.

The third energy saving idea you can adapt for cooling down is to use fans instead of air conditioners. You can save to as high as 90 percent from a "1 kilowatt hour" fan compared to "10 kilowatt hour" air conditioner.

Some energy saving ideas for heaters are also applicable to air conditioners. This includes maintenance of the equipment. To avoid them from overworking and using up more energy to keep the house and cool, make sure that you clean filters that are permanent and replace those that are disposable. Make sure also that you always clean the machine's vents and coils. Apart from this, another energy saving idea for maintenance is to call in the experts. Have the air conditioning technicians and contractors to check on your cooling unit annually.

And just like the energy saving idea for heating, caulk windows and doors and weatherstrip them. According to studies, 20 percent of the cool air generated air conditioners is lost to the outdoor. This does not only avoid the cool temperature from seeping outside the house but it also allows energy consumption.

And the last air conditioner energy saving tip is to install the air conditioner in a cool area protected by shade or an awning to avoid direct sunlight.
